About Ramakrishna Math & Ramakrishna Mission Sevashrama, Bankura
Ramakrishna Math and Ramakrishna Mission Sevashrama, Bankura traces its origin to famine relief work started in 1915 under the guidance of Belur Math, inspired by the ideals of Sri Ramakrishna, Holy Mother Sri Sarada Devi, and Swami Vivekananda. Gradually evolving from a temporary relief centre into a permanent institution, the Sevashrama grew through the dedicated efforts of monks and devoted lay workers, notably Swami Maheshwarananda (Doctor Maharaj). Affiliated with Belur Math in 1930, the Sevashrama has since served society through spiritual, educational, and medical activities, including daily worship, religious discourses, charitable dispensaries, eye care services, and community welfare programs, standing today as a beacon of service and spiritual upliftment in Bankura.
